FENGH SHUI
Understanding how an inspiration is born is not a simple thing but the characteristic of the artist Cinzia Cotellessa is her joie de vivre and the curiosity that often leads her to venture successfully even in philosophies far from her western culture. In the path of each artist there is always research.
The research belongs to this “profession” and perhaps an artist who does not search is not a true artist …When in 2004 she appears in the world of golf with her works related to Cracking Art, she begins to be curious about why she prefers the square shape, and from there she starts her research. She begins to study the various oriental philosophies and symbols and discovers that one of her works (done unconsciously, or at least she believed it) made in 2010 “Composizione 9 tele” is nothing more than a magic square or SHU, and from there a series of works are born, and then an exhibition in 2015 dedicated to the oriental philosophy of FENG SHUI…And as Lorenzo Ostuni has repeatedly stated: … The symbol is the maximum energy in the minimum form …. ideograms … which in addition to the formal quality of the works, constitute energy catalysts that enclose the secret language of the rhythms of nature and harmonious relationship among the elements, representing physical and spiritual qualities that are capable of transforming the environment in which they are inserted.
The square is the common thread, the canvases are all square, archetypal shape capable of instantly activating an abstraction process by opposing the rectangle and the characteristics of the human visual field. The purity of the colors is enhanced – yellow, red, green, blue, blue, black, silver, gold – which have precise meanings in the reciprocal relationships. The representations become essential, renouncing what’s more and recovering the bidimensionality characteristic of oriental models.
